ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Cheap Denver Broncos Jerseys cornerback De’Vante Bausby, who was taken off the field Sunday on a backboard after colliding with a teammate, said Tuesday he “couldn’t move” for 30 minutes after the hit, but he hopes to return to the field as soon as possible.
“Strengthen my [neck] muscles again and I’ll be good to go,” Bausby said.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk is expected to miss four to six weeks due to a sprained left medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
The Niners announced the injury and time frame on Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after Juszczyk suffered the injury in a 31-3 win against the Cleveland Browns on Monday night. Because the injury isn’t expected to last as long as eight weeks, Juszczyk will avoid joining the injured reserve list with hopes of returning sooner than later.
With a little more than three minutes remaining in the third quarter, Juszczyk was blocking on a run play when he and Browns safety Jermaine Whitehead collided. Juszczyk lost his footing as Whitehead undercut him, and he landed awkwardly on his left knee. He was able to hobble to the sideline before a cart took him to the locker room, ending his night.
After the game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan indicated he thought it was a sprain rather than a serious, season-ending type of knee injury. Juszczyk told ESPN in the locker room that he wasn’t yet sure of the severity but that he would have an MRI on Tuesday morning.
The additional tests confirmed the Niners’ initial suspicions, leaving the team without an integral part of its offense for at least the next month. It’s a big blow to an offense that ranks fourth in the league in yards per game (427.3) and yards per play (6.28), first in rushing yards per game (200) and second in points per game (31.8).
Juszcyk said via Twitter on Tuesday that he will be back soon.
“Obviously, Juice is a vital part to our offense and especially our running game,” right tackle Mike McGlinchey said. “But we have a lot of guys that are capable of playing that position. All three of our other tight ends, including George Kittle, can do it if he’s required to. But Juice is a mainstay in our offense. He’s tied in with the five of us up front, six of us including George, and we don’t go without him. Hopefully we can pick up the slack here coming up in the next week if he is out. But he is huge for us. He makes plays all over the field. He’s the unsung hero. Other than the couple times he gets to catch a pass, he’s got an O-line mindset.”
Juszczyk is the only fullback on the roster as Shanahan has previously said he values having a versatile player like Juszczyk more than just having a fullback. So far this season, Juszczyk has lined up split wide (4 percent of snaps), in the slot (6 percent), tight to the formation on the line of scrimmage (16 percent) and in the backfield (74 percent).
Through four weeks, the 49ers have used two running backs more than any other team, with two backs on the field 51.5 percent of the time.
Those personnel groupings have come with plenty of success as San Francisco has averaged 7.3 yards per play, scored nine touchdowns, averaged 11.8 yards per pass attempt and picked up 13.8 first downs per game with two backs on the field, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
In Juszczyk’s absence, it’s unlikely the Niners will look to add a fullback because there are none on the market who can do everything Juszczyk does. Without Juszczyk, the Niners are likely to turn to tight ends Kittle, Ross Dwelley and Levine Toilolo to fill the void on a more regular basis or to go without a fullback more than they have through the first four games.
Juszczyk’s injury is the latest in a string of bad luck in which the Cheap San Francisco 49ers Jerseys have lost a starter to injury for at least a pair of contests in each of their four games. Running back Tevin Coleman sprained his ankle in the opener against Tampa Bay and returned after missing two games. Left tackle Joe Staley (broken fibula) and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (sprained foot) are also out for extended time due to injuries suffered in Weeks 2 and 3, respectively.
Asked if he was nervous or afraid after the collision, Bausby said: “Little bit. … I was never unconscious. I just couldn’t move, but I was still talking and everything. The doc, the neurologist said I was going to be fine and I just trusted that, and after about 30 minutes I was able to wiggle my toes and after a couple hours I was able to regain full mobility, so I was straight, I was fine. … They said I was paralyzed for 30 minutes; after 30 minutes I could wiggle my toes and after two hours I could move everything else.”
Bausby was motionless on the field after he tackled Cheap Los Angeles Chargers Jerseys running back Austin Ekeler with 14:51 remaining in the second quarter. On the play, as Bausby was making contact with Ekeler, Broncos linebacker Alexander Johnson plowed into Bausby.
The Broncos’ medical staff removed the face mask from Bausby’s helmet, stabilized his neck and strapped him to the backboard. He was taken to the Los Angeles Trauma Center.
There, Bausby underwent several tests, including multiple MRI exams before he was discharged from the hospital and returned to Denver on the Broncos’ chartered flight.
ALAMEDA, Calif. — While Cheap Oakland Raiders Jerseys coach Jon Gruden would not speculate on whether his brother Jay might join his staff after being fired by the Cheap Washington Redskins Jerseys on Monday, the elder Gruden did stick up for his younger brother.
And he did so with a nod and a wink.
“I’m obviously very disappointed for my brother,” Gruden said Tuesday during his weekly media conference. “It was a long night, last couple of nights. He worked hard. Got a lot of respect for my brother. Obviously, disappointed for him getting fired.”
“My dad’s been fired,” Gruden added. “I’ve been fired. Jay’s been fired and … welcome to the club, bro.”
Gruden, who was traded from Oakland to the Cheap Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys in 2001, founded his somewhat satirical Fired Football Coaches Association when he was dismissed by the Bucs in 2008. He spent the next nine seasons in ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” booth before returning to the Raiders last year.
Meanwhile, Cheap Los Angeles Rams Jerseys coach Sean McVay, a former Redskins offensive coordinator under Jay Gruden who got his first Cheap NFL Jerseys job on the Tampa Bay staff with Jon, said he exchanged texts with Jay Gruden on Monday and called it a “tough situation” for a close friend.
McVay worked with Jay Gruden for the Florida Tuskers of the UFL in 2009 and with Washington from 2014 to ’16.
“When I was his coordinator, in a lot of ways he kind of groomed me and brought me along to where you kind of learn some of the things about how you’re setting up a game plan,” McVay said of Jay Gruden. “He protected me from a lot of the things.”
McVay was asked whether he’d consider adding Jay Gruden to his staff.
“He’ll have a lot of options,” McVay said. “Those are things that I think we’ll, I’m sure, discuss at some point. But right now it’s more about just reaching out to a buddy and seeing how he’s doing.”
With consecutive wins at the Cheap Indianapolis Colts Jerseys and in London against the Cheap Chicago Bears Jerseys, Jon Gruden gave the Raiders (3-2) the entire bye week off, except one player — wide receiver Zay Jones, who was officially acquired in a trade with the Cheap Buffalo Bills Jerseys on Tuesday.
“I’m gonna teach Zay Jones some plays today,” a smiling Gruden said when asked how he was going to spend his bye week. “And I’m gonna come in tomorrow and teach Zay Jones some more plays.”
Gruden opened his presser Tuesday by acknowledging the eighth anniversary of Al Davis’ passing — which occurred Oct. 8, 2011.
“My respects go out to the Davis family,” Gruden said. “And I know if Al Davis was still here, he would have been proud of our team, the way they’ve played the last couple of weeks.”
“I was just happy [to return with the team],” Bausby said. “… Los Angeles Trauma Center, I was ready to get up out of there, happy to rejoin my team on the plane ride back here. … I was just calm, and I just trusted what the doc was saying.”
Monday, Broncos coach Vic Fangio said Bausby had a “compression” injury, that there was “no timetable” for Bausby’s return and “he’ll definitely miss some time; don’t know if he’ll miss the rest of the season or not. These things, the first few days, and week, will tell the story.”
For the time being, the Broncos placed Bausby on injured reserve and signed veteran cornerback Coty Sensabaugh in a corresponding move. By rule, Bausby has to miss at least eight weeks and each team can only activate two players from IR, but Bausby is still hoping to play this season.
“Right now, we’re just going to take it real slow, gain my strength back and all that mess,” Bausby said before the decision to place him on IR. “I don’t have a timetable, but hopefully pretty soon. My plan is to come back and play [this season], though.”
The fourth-year cornerback, who has been waived nine times in his NFL career and spent last season in the Alliance of American Cheap Football JerseysOakland Raiders, signed with the Broncos shortly after the AAF shut down. He has battled his way up the depth chart and has made two starts this season, including Sunday’s game against the Chargers.
He has 12 tackles and has knocked down three passes.
